“A shot of adventure espresso for all those folk who don’t have the time, the money or the freedom for a giant bottomless mug of black coffee…”

This year of monthly adventure is inspired by Alastair Humphreys, an English adventurer, author and motivational speaker.  If you read my blog post, How it all Began, you will see how I stumbled upon him.

He has challenged us all to a year of microadventures, one a month, throughout 2015.  Simple expeditions and challenges which are close to home, affordable and easy to organise. Ideas designed to encourage ordinary people to get out there and do stuff for themselves, even in these tightened financial times.

Watch this video and tell me that it doesn’t inspire you.

I’m still reading his book but I have been struck by a number of thoughts he has imparted.

“Adventure is a state of mind, a spirit of trying something new and leaving your comfort zone.  Adventure is about enthusiasm, ambition, open-mindedness and curiosity.”

Good!  Less of this sleeping under the stars malarkey and yes, I will sign up to it being a state of mind, trying something new and leaving my comfort zone.  Whilst sleeping outdoors (Alastair advocates leaving your tent behind) would do all of this for me, I hate being cold!

Adventure is stretching yourself, mentally, physically or culturally.  It is about doing something you do not normally do, pushing yourself hard and doing it to the best of your ability…Microadventures still captures the essence of big adventures, the challenge, the fun, the escapism, the learning experience and the excitement”

I will use these aspects as a checklist to each of my microadventures.
